PROCESS FOR PREPARING MACROLIDES

Tylactone derivs. of formula (I) are new. In (I), R is H or acyl; Q is H or a mycarosyl gp. of formula (II); R1 is H or acyl. Provided that when Q is H, then R is acyl. Streptomyces fradiae NRRL 12201 is new. A culture medium comprising Streptomyces fradiae NRRL 12201 and assimilable sources of C, N and inorganic salts is new. (I) are intermediates for the prepn. of tylactone and its acyl derivs., which may in turn be used for bioconversion to tylosin or for the prepn. of labelled derivs. for use in biosynthetic or metabolic studies.
