The lid (5) is secured on the filling end (3) of the container by means of a strip-shaped plastic clamping hoop (6) whose ends are tightened relative to one another by means of releasable clamping members. The clamping hoop (6), which surrounds the edge flange (7) of the lid in the region of a clamping groove (15), resting closely against it, contains a belt zone (11) directed downwards at the filling end (3) of the container. Moulded onto the lower edge of the belt zone are flexible locking lugs (13) which are directed radially inwards and obliquely upwards and whose upper locking surface (13.1) rests against the underside of a rim (4) at the filling end (3) of the container when the lid has been placed on. The clamping hoop (6) is placed on the edge flange (7) of the lid (5) in such a way that the locking lugs (13) protrude freely inwards below the edge flange (7) and is then tightened by clamping members moulded onto its ends. The lid (5) together with the clamping hoop (6) is then fitted onto the filling end of the container. When passing over the rim (4), the locking lugs (13) rest against the belt zone (11) and spring back below the rim (4) into the locking position when the lid has been placed on completely. When the clamping hoop closure has been released, the lid (5) can be removed from the container without damage. <IMAGE>
