The motor compressor group has a motor supply circuit (10) which includes a series switch (24) in one of the supply leads (L3, L4, L6) between the motor (12) and the current source (L1, L2). This switch (24) is contained within the motor housing (26) and has a shunt circuit (25) across it provided by a resistor with a resistance of above 10,000 ohms. The state of the internal switch (24) can be determined without opening the hermetically sealed motor housing (26) by connecting the circuit (10) to a supply and measuring the current passed via the shunt to the motor (12) or by measuring the resistance of the supply circuit (10). The method allows a breakdown of the motor to be attributed to a faulty motor or to the series switch being left open. |
