Shell accuracy testing system for quality control - uses camera focussed on target recording proximity ignition of fired shells

The target hit count verification system measures the amount by which a number of test shells selected from a mfg. batch fail to hit the target. The shells are aimed at a freely suspended target onto which a camera is focussed providing an image of the target and its immediate proximity. Each shell has a proximity fuse the camera registering the ignition of each shell as it passes the target. Pref. a video camera coupled to an image storage device is used. The camera is either triggered by the shell being fired, or it is triggered at a given interval after firing, e.g. using a microphone to provide the firing signal. The path of the shell may also be tracked by a radar device. A second camera may be focussed onto an electronic time recorder the two images from both cameras being combined.
