The hip-bath is designed to accommodate the lower part of the body only, and it is esp. for medicinal uses. It has two recesses (3) to accommodate the thighs, and there is a further recess (4) in the bottom. The hip bath is designed so that any heat applied can be restricted to the abdominal area. The recess (4) in the bottom may consist of a step or trough. The hip-bath is oval in plan view, and has a turned-over top edge.
