The card index for cards carrying microfilm with lines of text along the visible bottom edge of the overlapping cards, has each card supported by a carrier sheet folded along a horizontal fold line. Each folded half has a latch tab secured to one corner acting as a locating carrier for the bottom edge of the card. Each sheet has a lug projecting from its top and bottom edge in the opposite corner to the tab attachment corner and has two locating projections at the first corner and another projection at the second corner, for positioning the card. Each latch is of transparent material which is also folded over to grip the corner, one fold having a slit to receive a tab projecting from the corner of the sheet.
