Length measurement for rotary grinder cut profiles - uses optical system placing image on photoelectric transducer matrix

A length measurement device has a measurement scale with photoelectric transducers and an arrangement receiving the signals corresp. to the measured length. It is applicable to measuring cutting widths of circular and plunge-cut grinders and for slot and tooth cutters. The construction ensures no interaction of passing radio waves with the signal carrying the measured information. The arrangement is suitable for use with complicated cut profiles. Additional rows of photoelectric transducers (5) form a matrix transducer (6) which receives an image of the cutter (1) via an optical receiver system (7). A number of control switches (8) corresp. to the number of transducer elements (5) transfers the transducer element output signals to a signal processing circuit (9). The optical system (7) can be parallel or perpendicular to the cutter plane of rotation.
