<p>PURPOSE:To diminish the temp. change of display characteristics such as transfer voltage, contrast and the like by containing suitable amounts of a dextro-rotatory cholesteric liquid crystal and a levo-rotatory cholesteric liquid crystal and a dichromatic dye in a cholesteric liquid crystal of positive dielectric anisotropy. CONSTITUTION:An L type dichromatic dye 5 is dissolved in a cholesteric liquid crystal of positive dielectric anisotropy, and further a mixture of a suitable ratio of levo-rotatory and dextro-rotatory cholesteric liquid crystals is added for the purpose of temp. compensation. When no voltage is applied between transparent electrodes 3, 3 in this arrangement, the liquid crystal molecules 4 in both display part and nondisplay part are parallel to the substrates and show a dark color. When voltage is applied, the liquid crystal molecules 4 and dye 5 orient perpendicularly to the substrate surfaces, then the display part is dropped out and is displayed distinctly with respect to the dark color of the nondisplay part. The voltage change by temp. is decreased by the inclusion of the levo- and dextro-rotatory liquid crystals, and this display body is suited for use where temp. change is significant, such as automotive parts.</p> |
