The specification discloses an apparatus for testing the dampening and inking equilibrium in offset printing units having a test roller located in the dampening fluid screen and/or one located in the ink film screen, the liquid film thickness of which is tested. The apparatus is characterized in that only one test roller is provided which is adjustable to one of the dampening applicator rollers and to one of the ink applicator rollers and that at least certain regions of the envelope surface of the test roller are of hydrophilic construction.
