PROCESS FOR PRODUCING COPOLYMERS OF ETHYLENE AND HIGHER ALPHA-OLEFINS

A process for producing copolymers of ethylene and higher alphaolefins containing 3 to 6 carbon atoms utilizing a fluidised bed procedure. A catalyst system comprising a tetravalent titanium compound as catalyst together with a co-catalyst comprising either an organo-magnesium compound or magnesium metal is used. This process is capable of providing a copolymer containing up to 33% by weight of units derived from the higher alpha-olefin, in contrast to previous processes which are limited to about 6% of higher alhpa-olefin. The products of this process find use, in the production of castings by rotary moulding techniques, and in melt-coating procedures.
