Schiff's bases of the formula <IMAGE> are obtained by reacting an amine H2N-R3 with a ketone <IMAGE> in presence of calcium hydrogen phosphate, apatite, aluminum oxide, aluminium hydroxide and/or Fuller's Earth and subsequent removing the water by azeotronic distillation. The products are intermediates for the preparation of phenylene diamines which may be used as age resistors for rubber.
