<p>PURPOSE:To enable to vary the valve opening and closing timing smoothly, by forming the cam follower of a rocker arm to have a sliding surface the curvature of which can be changed, and arranging the cam follower to be movable in a direction parallel to the turning direction of the cam. CONSTITUTION:A rocker arm 3 is provided with an eccentric shaft 4, so that its cam follower 1 can be moved in parallel to the turning direction of a cam 2 by changing a turning shaft. The rocker arm 3 is bent almost at a right angle and the datum surface of the cam follower 1 is formed by a curved surface. Therefore, if the eccentric shaft 4 is turned an angle of about 20 deg., the position of a tappet 6 where the rocker arm 3 and a valve shaft 5 are held in contact is not changed substantially, so that the valve shaft 5 can be depressed by the tappet 6 effectively. Thus, it is enabled to change the valve opening and closing timing as well as the valve opening angle smoothly during operation of engine.</p> |
