A tape cleaner comprises: a scraper unit having a relatively hard smooth surface 12 for engagement with the tape and at least one arcuate slot 18 or 20 having a cutting edge and a non-cutting edge arranged to contact the tape in a transverse direction; a chamber for receiving particles removed from the tape by the cutting edge; and means for providing a circulating fluid within the chamber for removing the particles from it. The surface plate 12 is arcuate and is provided with two slots, one for each direction of travel of the tape. A pipe 42 is connected to a source of vacuum to extract air from chamber 32 and air inlets 34, 36, 38, 40 are provided to give a vortex movement to air entering the chamber.</p> |
