The invention relates to a process for the removal of phosphorus and nitrogen from chromium-containing crude iron by oxidative refining. The carbon level in the molten metal is kept at a value of at least 2%, and the molten metal is brought into contact with a slag containing at least one compound chosen from a group comprising alkaline earth metal fluorides and chlorides, at least one compound chosen from a group comprising alkali metal oxides, hydroxides and carbonates, and at least one compound chosen from a group comprising oxides of iron and nickel, as a result of which the oxidation of chromium is suppressed. <IMAGE> |
