PURPOSE:To increase the hardness of a plating layer and prolong the life by containing Fe in the Ni plating layer of the copper plate of a mold. CONSTITUTION:The hardness of an Fe-Ni plating layer decreases roughly in proportional to the increase of the Ni layer. On the other hand, the rate of abrasion increases with an increase in the Ni amount. It is adequate to confine the Ni amount in the Fe-Ni plating to 20wt% for the lower limit, and to 45wt% for the upper limit. Next, Cr is added to Fe-20-45wt% Ni plating. Up to 20wt% Cr amount, no change occurs in globule adhesion strength, but in excess of 20wt%, the adhesion strength decreases significantly. Above 45wt%, the effect is so high that cracking in the plating layer occurs considerably. Hence, it is proper to keep the Cr amount at 25-45wt%. The life of the mold and the quality of a slab is improved as above mentioned. |
