PURPOSE:To enable realization of excellent character display attributed to glow discharge certainly taking place covering the overall area, through such an arrangement as havig an electrode common to a plural number of element chamber separated into two parts located in each side of individual chamber, and providing insulation barrier in form of a projection which can reserve each narrow gap for pilot discharge in both side areas corresponding to those separated parts of an electrode respectively. CONSTITUTION:Separated portion of a positive electrode 16a, 16b respectively made of silver or the like shall be set in both corner edges on the internal surface of face plate 12 belonging to each element chamber 14, in the direction crossing the extension of a negative electrode 15 at a right angle. These positive electrodes 16a and 16b are connected in common, so as to have potential difference between the negative electrode 15 across the intervening gap. In the areas on the surface of negative electrode 15 confronting those separated portions of a positive electrode 16a and 16b, are reserved each appropriate pilot discharge area 18a, 18b respectively partitioned by each barrier 17a and 17b. The starting condition of discharge may be remarkably improved in a group of many element chambers arranged in form of a matrix which can provide an effective discharge operation due to enabled control of character display possessing excellent response. |
