The process is used to produce a hollow block of brick material, which has a longitudinal zone filled with heat-insulating material. First a one-piece shell is formed, in which the insulating zone is bridged by auxiliary strips. These are then scored at least partly, and the heat-insulating material (13) is filled between the parts (11,15) of the shell. All the strips can be scored, so as to form a two-part shell, the parts of which are then joined by bonding material. The insulating material may then form an intermediate layer between them. Joining can be by adhesive, or by clips or straps of steel or plastics.
