An inductive flowmeter has a measurement tube (11) for the measurement medium with lateral devices producing a magnetic field perpendicular to the flow direction. Electrodes produce a measurement voltage proportional to the speed of flow in the tube. It is economical to make and overcomes the difficulties associated with generating the magnetic field by use of alternating current or periodic direct current. The magnetic field perpendicular to the flow direction is produced by movable permanent magnets (14,15,16,17) whose movement is controllable. The magnets are movable linearly in planes on opposite sides of the measurement tube or along circular paths. The magnet motion may be continuous or discontinuous, esp. step-wise, and synchronised from one side of the tube to the other.
|
