The hot-water storage tank is partic. for use with a solar heating system, and comprises an insulated vessel with heating feed and return unions, also a heater for the water stored. The vessel (1) has a pipe (8) extending for its full height and which can be connected to the heating return pipe (4). The interior of this pipe is connected via a series of valves (10) at different heights to the vessel interior, and which are thermostat-controlled, so that only those are open where the stored water temperature is the same as the return flow temperature.
