<p>The lathe comprises a headstock (2) with a chuck (3) and a tail-stock (4) with a centre (5). These are each carried on a support (18,21,22) and directly interconnected and stabilised by a rigid member, such as a tube (1), whose ends (19) are coupled to headstock and tail-stock respectively. The tubular member (1) pref. permits axial movement of the headstock spindle with chuck and/or tail-stock with centre. The supports (18,21,22) pref. stand at points inwards of the ends (19). The tool support (9) may be axially slidable on or in the tubular member which has openings for access and swarf removal.</p> |
