A blood filter for removing dead cells, constituents and/or foreign elements has an unwoven dense fibre packing with fibre dia. corresp. to cell dia. The packing is formed from a single plastics monofilament or strands of long monofilaments, with >=1 uniform winding on a hollow transmissive core. The winding is pref. a cross-winding, and the core may be a screen filter or a closed non-transmissive tube, with a screen filter connected downstream. The core may carry a number of windings of different packing density. The filter pref. includes a housing with a partition below the core to form a drip chamber.
