Superconductor for high strength magnetic fields - has superconductive intermetallic compound made of two elements by heating in hydrogen atmosphere

The superconductor is heat treated in a hydrogen atmosphere at a temp. above 600 deg.C (pref. 700 degrees C) and with a hydrogen pressure of at least 10 power -3 bar. The heat treatment may be in two stages using different temperatures. The superconductor is intended for use in devices producing magnetic fields whose flux densities exceed 10 tesla. The hydrogen atmosphere increases the critical current and therefore the effective current density of the superconductor without adversely affecting the processability of the conductor components.
