Carbon piston for IC engines - produced by pyrolysis with embedded carbon fibre woven cloth and directional rovings

The Parent Patent 2912786 described a piston for an internal combustion engine which consists of a piston head and a piston skirt with two gudgeon pin bosses, all made of pitch or synthetic resin, which has been converted by pyrolysis into carbon and in which carbon fibres are embedded. In an improved version, the carbon fibres are arranged in the shape of a woven or knitted fibre cloth to suit the shape of the piston configuration. In addition, carbon fibre rovings are introduced in the direction of the dynamic stress. Such a piston can be manufactured at a lower cost. The new design is simple enough to be suitable for mass production.
