The capacitor is modular and can be combined with others to form a group. The group is enclosed in a casing which is continually supplied with an inert or protective gas whose pressure is slightly above atmospheric pressure. The switches and discharge devices needed for monitoring are also located in the casing. The volume of the casing can be varied. The capacitors are protected from the weather and can be situated close to equipment. The casing unit is small and light in weight.
