Multichannel analyser for spectrometer - has reference and measuring pulses fed simultaneously to compensate distortion of amplitude spectra

In a neutron-activation spectrometric operation a particle emission from a sample is detected and is converted in a multichannel analyser into a digital signal which identifies the particular channel corresponding to the pulse amplitude. A train of reference pulses of stable frequency is generated, having amplitudes falling within one group of the channels. The reference and measuring pulses are fed concurrently to the analyser. When a reference pulse coincides with a measuring pulse the system identifies a channel corresponding to the combined amplitude of the two pulses. This channel is within a second group of channels. The ratio of the reference pulse rate to the measuring pulse rate can be determined for a standard and test samples. This compensates for the distortion of the amplitude spectrum of a multi-channel analyser.
