Powder metal prodn by atomising melts - by means of two converging jet streams one, having curved curtain shape

Process for atomising a molten matl., esp. molten metal, takes place by comminuting a molten matl. stream (A) by means of jet-streams directed under high pressure against (A). A first and second stream formed on opposite sides of (A) converge against a crossover point lying sideways from (A). First jet-stream is spread out in a plane which intersects (A) at an acute angle and deflects it against second jet-stream which stretches out within plus-or-minus 10 degrees w.r.t. and esp. in parallel to original direction of (A). Second jet-stream has shape of a cruved curtain which touches (A) with its concave side. Used esp. for prepn. of high alloyed steel powder for powder metallurgy. Used for a curved jet obviates need for high accuracy i adjusting jet pipe to casting container. Powder yields can be improved from 90 to 97-98%.
