Automatic power transmission device with a friction clutch, which has a drive and an output element, with an input shaft, which is connected to the drive element and can be driven by way of an engine, with an output shaft which is connected to the output element and is drive-connected to a propshaft, with a transmission on the output shaft for varying the speed of rotation of the propshaft in relation to the output shaft, with a device which detects a difference in speed between the input shaft and the output shaft, and with a device which responds to this difference, controls the engine until the input and the output shafts rotate synchronously and then engages the friction clutch for each shifting of the transmission.
