The random selector of numbers, letters, or words for games of chance uses a large number of small balls of two different colours. The majority of the balls are one colour (5a) and a minority (5b) a second colour. The selector comprises a flat base (1) having a clear plastic cover (3) heat formed and welded to it. The height of the cover above the base is slightly greater than the dia. of the balls (5). An upper zone runs the full width of the base and allows the balls to be shaken. The device is then turned so the balls run into vertical columns (4) moulded into the cover. The columns are marginally wider than the dia. of the ball. A printed card is placed under the cover between the columns and the selection is made by observing which element the minority coloured balls (5b) lie beside.
