The slot-controlled two-stroke engine with crankcase compression has a transfer passage for the fresh gas from crankcase to cylinder. It operates while the lower edge of the piston skirt is above and below the inlet port at top and bottom dead-centre positions respectively. Near the piston crown (12) is a control port (10) drilled through the skirt (8), and which is in line with the inlet port (6) after the lower skirt edge (9) of the piston (5) has passed the lower port edge (19) on the downward stroke. This control port thus connects the inlet port to the crankcase (25), forming an additional inlet for fresh gas.
