Static converter for frequency reduction - uses two antiparallel current gates for each phase

The static converter reduces frequency by a non-integral number in the range 1 to 0.5. The output frequency is related to the input frequency by a specified equation involving the number of phases of the supplying transformer. The number of phases of the transformer determines the ratio between the output and input frequencies. Each phase has two antiparallel current gates. The gates may comprise thyristors each with two antiparallel diodes. The converter may be used to change, e.g. 60 Hz to 50 Hz.
