<p>A wheelbarrow shell of plastics material has external, projecting fixing elements (10), integrally formed with the plastics shell (5), to which the wheel chassis is attached. The projecting fixing elements are pref. pairs of fixing ribs (10), between which a component (13) of the chassis is held. The internal face of the shell (5) may have recesses (14) to seat the heads of bolts (15) passing through the shell to fix the chassis bars (10) between the pairs of external ribs. Pref. metal reinforcing elements (17) may be located on the top face or side faces of the slot between the ribs. The preferred manufacturing apparatus for the wheelbarrow shell is an injection mould, in which are least a part of the outer part of the mould has interchangeable components to shape the external ribs. The shell with the external reinforcing ribs or projections is considerably stronger than a conventional plastics shell in which the bolt heads exert extremely high local forces and distort the shell. The new wheel barrow shell is eminently suitable for construction sites and similar heavy work.</p> |
