A nest of fine tubes (11) is held in a cylindrical case (14) which is placed within a ventilation duct (10). The resistance of the tubes distributes the air evenly over the duct. Part of the air (52) flows through a wider central tube (24) forming part of a rotating cover. It is deflected by the bottom (32) of the cover and flows up the tubes to clean them. The top of the cover (30) redirects the air to rejoin the main stream by a further central tube. The cover lies over part only of the tube nest. The reaction of the air causes it to rotate continuously over the nest of tubes.
