Heading C2C. 3 - Methylbut - 2 - en - 1 - ol or 3 - methylbut-2-en-1-yl acetate are prepared by treating 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ol or 3-methylbut-3-en-1-ylacetate, respectively, with a catalytic amount of a carbonyl compound of a transition metal of Groups VI to VIII of the Mendeleef Periodic System. The preferred catalyst is iron pentacarbonyl and the presence of a catalytic amount of a base, e.g. hexamethylene tetramine, is also advantageous. |
