The skylight opener has a casing for its drive unit mounted directly onto a support plate. The latter extends beyond the opening arm which lies parallel to it in the closed position. The casing is attached to the extension part of the support plate on the same side as the arm. Alternatively, the casing is mounted on the flat side of the support plate opposite the arm. When closed, the assembly forms a uniform square.
