<p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to make a high sedimentary layer having microbial activity and decrease the required area for installation of an apparatus, by using a mixture of a granular, hydrophilic inorganic material having high porosity and material having microbial activity. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of a hydrophilic highly-porous inorganic material such as granular slag-wool or asbestos etc. and a bacteria-activated material such as fowl droppings etc. is used by piling it up in a gas treating column. Bad smelling gases fed into the lower part of the column by a feed fan 5 are humidified by means of a water sprinkler 7 and then passed through a sedimentary layer 1. Bad smelling components in the gases are made odorless by the activity of microbes, while being passed through the sedimentary layer 1, and the odorless gases are discharged from the top of the column. Optimum environment for microbes is maintained within the sedimentary layer 1 by means of a moisture detecting means 2 and a pH detecting means 3 which are provided in said layer 1. Since the inorganic material has sufficient porosity, pressure drop of gas through the sedimentary layer 1 is low, so that sufficient height of sedimentary layer corresponding to the treating capacity is ensured.</p> |
