A releasable coupling device comprises a fitting having an opening 18 for receiving the end of a tube, a retaining ring 20 in the opening having a plurality of axially extending, inwardly biased fingers 22 adapted to engage an inserted tube to restrain it against axial movement out of the fitting; the retaining ring comprising a multi-sided web portion 24 with the plurality of fingers being integrally formed therewith and extending therefrom, adjacent sides of the web portion defining a plurality of corners such that the diameter of an imaginary circle passing through the corners is greater than the diameter of the opening before the retaining ring is inserted thereinto, and the diameter of an imaginary circle passing through the mid-points of the sides of said web portion is less than the diameter of the opening whereby the retaining ring is be supported within the opening solely by engagement of the corners against the side wall of the opening and an unlocking collar 36 capable of forcing the plurality of fingers radially outward to disengage the fingers from the tube. <IMAGE> |
