PURPOSE:To continuously cast a thin-walled metal strip of uniform thickness at high speeds by running a metal belt in an arc shape as a mold, pouring molten metal to the inside surface side of the arc and solidifying the same under centrifugal force on the inside surface of the belt. CONSTITUTION:Two sheets parallel dics 1 are rotatively driven by a shaft 2, and a steel belt 3 is pressed to the outside circumference of the two discs 1 by way of pulleys 4. Cooling water is injected under high pressure between the belt 3 and a water cooling plate 5, whereby the belt 3 is cooled from the back. On the other hand, the molten metal in a tundish 6 is flowed out upward through a nozzle 7, and is conveyed by rotation in contact with the belt 3; in addition, it is pressed by centrifugal force to the belt 3 to uniform thickness. The molten metal is allowed to solidify thoroughly before it reaches an outlet 8. At this time, the discs 1 play the role of the side walls of the mold, thereby determining the width of the strip 9. Additionally, the strip 9 is unbent by a guide 10 at the outlet, is taken out to the outside in a linear shape and is coiled by a pulley 11. |
