PURPOSE:To supply a stable electric charge to each of ink particles having different particle diameters by a method wherein a vibration or a period of a pulse voltage applied to an electrostrictive vibrator is changed by making a period a minimum unit. CONSTITUTION:The charge polarity of an ink particle during a recording is made + (positive), and the charge polarity of an ink particle during a phase detection is made - (negative), and the ink particles charged negatively during a phase detection are made to collide with the depth of a gutter 6. A recording charge voltage pulse or a detection charge voltage pulse from a recording charge voltage generator 11 or a detection charge voltage generator 12 is applied to a charge electrode 3 through a relay 10, thereat. The generator 11 makes a wave level ascend or descend in synchronizing with the exciting reference wave S3 of an electrostrictive vibrator 2 and generates a stage voltage to decide a copying position. As long as the detection charge pulse is existent, the generator 12 outputs a constant level of a - voltage to make an ink particle charged and the charge quantity is entered into the 1st and 2nd comparators COM1, COM2 via an integrating circuit 13 connected to a ungrouded gutter 6 and a discrimination between a large diametered particle and a small diametered particle is performed. |
