Disintegration of catalyst is a greatly reduced, and the danger of contamination by catalyst-stabilizers is avoided in a method for preparing a polyamine by hydrogenating a corresponding polynitrile in the presence of a pelleted cobalt-zinc hydrogenation catalyst. A solvent, e.g. an alcohol such as methanol, and ammonia can be present during hydrogenation. The cobalt-zinc catalyst preferably has a molar ratio of Co:Zn varying from 98:2 to 60:40; conveniently cobalt and zinc are present in oxide form. |
