Heat treatment of e.g. textile fabrics - by passing electrical current between contacts

Textile fabrics are heat-treated by passing an electric current using pairs of electrical contacts (1,2). According to the electrical resistance of the material (3) under treatment, modifications may be made in both the strength of the electric current and the distance between pairs of contacts. The use of electrical contacts, in the form of rollers, strips, ribs or plates, without need for further equipment, suppresses both thermal and electrical losses which have hitherto been a feature of this type of treatment.
