The controller comprises a control device coupled to a number of timing modules on one side and to rotation control elements for one or more pumps on the other. The control device comprises a stepping mechanism, a relay circuit, a slip-flop circuit or an electronic counter network. The timing modules comprise electronic counters, multivibrators, frequency dividers etc. The controller is used to regulate the pump (5) to allow simulation of the water movement and aeration found in the normal environment. It can be preprogrammed for a long time period, to allow it to operate automatically without requiring attention. The controller can also be used for interval switching of other devices, e.g for internal aquarium heating, or food dispensing.
