The simplified rig for a windsurfer has a split mast (2) with a kite shaped sail (3) stretched in between the two halves. The top corner or head of the sail is hauled into the top of the split mast while the bottom corner is secured at the mast foot. The other direction is tensioned by a split boom (1) with the two boom halves attached to the mast halves. The kite shaped sail is sprung inside the frame formed by the mast and the boom and requires no special rigging. It is simple to set up and operate.
