PURPOSE:To prevent from lowering of the rate of recognition due to the deformation of handwritten characters, by providing one or more of the framing of characters, a framing of characters with projected character lines and a framing of characters with expanded or contracted character lines. CONSTITUTION:Character framing circuit 5 receives character patterns, normalized by using the centers gravity and secondary moment, from normalization processing circuit 2 and performs framing processing. In-area pattern holding circuit 6 holds only character lines in frame areas framed by circuit 5. Framing circuit 7 for projected characters projects character lines, jutting out of character frames obtained by circuit 5, upon the character frames toward the centers of gravity. Further, framing circuit 8 for expanded or contracted characters expands or contracts character lines jutting out of character frames. One or more of those circuits 6, 7 and 8 is equipped, so that the lowring of the rate of recognition due to handwritten character deformation is prevented. |
