Org. liqs. are thickened by mixing with a group II or III metal sulfonate. The mixt. contg. 0.5-40wt.% sulfonate is heated with an optional org. solvent and lubricant base. After solvent removal, the mixt. is optionally homogenized. Thus, 200 g CaC15-18α-alkenesulfonate was boiled 30 min with 500 g toluene. Then, 800 g mineral oil was added. Toluene was evapd. To obtain the desired consistancy, the resulting grease was homogenized in water. The dropping point was 235≦̸C.
