Hydrocarbon-contg. gases(I) and O2-contg. gases(II) are mixed by passing I through an aq. medium sealing zone into a gas mixing zone which is defined by the medium and a flame trap, and introducing II into the mixing zone. The mixed gas is then discharged through the flame trap. II is contacted with the medium before being introduced into the mixing zone, esp., it is introduced into the medium together with water.
