Method of treating a vitreous coating previously applied to any of a number of kinds of substrate such as concrete, steel, marble, plaster, terracotta cast iron etc. is described in which, when the glass temp. is such that the logarithm of the viscosity in poises reaches 11-15, the surface is treated with one or more oxides obtd. by pyrolytic decompsn. of salts or organometallic cpds. opt.. with halides. The vitreous coating may be provided with a high physico-chemical resistance to very corrosive substances, or may have improved or modified mechanical, thermal and/or optical properties according to the nature of the oxides deposited.
|
