The meteorological buoy has a hollow cylindrical body (1) containing a hollow ballast float (8) serving as a piston with its piston rod (T) passing through a float (7) fixed inside or outside the body adjacent its upper end. The upper free end of the rod carries the meteorological instruments. The ballast float interior connects with a tube (10) running up the rod to a tap (11). When the buoy is lowered into water by external handles (5) water enters the body through inlet holes, causing the ballast float to rise up the body, extending the rod and instruments. When recovery is required the top is opened manually or by remote control. Water then enters the ballast float through a hole (9) in its base and the float sinks, retracting the rod and instrumetns. The delicate instruments are then fully protected from handling at all times.
|
