The prim. sprocket for driving a bicycle chain is made from segments of a rigid material, e.g. steel or Al assembled with adjustable linkages so that the rider can control the alignment and degree of oval distortion which can be developed at the sprocket perimeter. The rider can establish a more uniform level of chain drive tension to be derived from the twin angular displacements involved during each cycle of the pair of pedals connected by cranks to the sprocket. The teeth are shaped to maintain engagement with the chain despite variations in sprocket ovality. Pref. the sprocket is made of an elastic rigid material (nylon type), and the teeth are coated with a wear-resistant material.
|
