Hydraulic props, in tandem, are each hinged to a roof cap and floor sill, and a lemniscate gear has its cap guide rod hinged to a cap joint hinge on the roof cap, and to the sill via guiding rods, in a support block, esp. used in pneumatic backfilling work in mines. The cap guide rod (23) is a wide plate with holes (33,34) for props (12,13) to pass through. Its cap attachment hinge (26) is offset towards the backfilling, relative to the hinges (28,31) on the guiding rods (24,25), so that these swing out towards the face when the props are thrust in. The cap rod is pref. as wide as the propped roof cap (11). Lemniscate drive is very stable, and pneumatic backfilling equipment is readily accessible.
