An electrolytic cell, e.g. for enriching a sewage with a sodium chloride content by a concentration of hypochlorite consists of an inner tube metal anode, surrounded by a concentric outer metal cathode. The two are held together by tie rods between a base plate and a top cap made of insulating material. The sewage enters at the bottom of the annulus, ascends in the annulus, descends in the anode and leaves through a hole in the centre bottom. An automatic degassing device for the hydrogen is arranged at the centre of the top cap and contains a shuttle valve with a plastic ball. This cell combines small overall dimensions with a short retention time. The sewage flow is free from dead end corners and utilizes the entire electrode surface area without dangerous hydrogen accumulations.
|
